JAQUES-DALCROZE
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
On July 18, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland the Institute for Jaques-Dalcroze Education, LLC was reauthorized at the signing ceremony with Silvia Del Bianco, Director of the Institute and Eric Jaques-Dalcroze, president of the Foundation. This contract does not confer the right to any territorial exclusivity.

This new validation affords us the privilege to use the Swiss trademark on our credentials, our website (see footer), and all advertisements at all campuses. Now, we are linked directly to the Swiss school as they connect to us. This partnership is a remarkable step forward, one which we welcome wholeheartedly. Under the guidance of Eric Jaques-Dalcroze, the Approach will continue as foreseen by his great grandfather Emile.
The certification curriculum divides into three levels; Level One - Basic Jaques-Dalcroze Certification, Level Two Intermediate Jaques-Dalcroze Certification, and Level Three, the Professional Jaques-Dalcroze Certificate. Courses for levels One and Two take place in Summer Session A while Courses for Level Three take place in Summer Session B.  The Licence d'Enseignement curriculum encompasses two consecutive summers each four weeks long which are summer Session L-1 and L-2.
Only holders of the Professional Certificate are granted entrance into the license program. Throughout the summer sessions, students take intermediate and then advanced courses in eurhythmics, solfége, and improvisation. Also, license candidates have extensive practice teaching and plastique animèe experience through the Pedagogy and Plastique Animèe Practicums. A term paper and four original musical compositions are also required.
The Institute for Jaques-Dalcroze Education, LLC is owned and operated by John Robert (Jack) Stevenson, Diplôme Supérieur Jaques-Dalcroze, an internationally recognized Jaques-Dalcroze pedagogue. Jack also serves as program director. The Institute provides authentic Jaques-Dalcroze teacher training for musicians and music educators.

The school sits on the grounds of the 108 acres Monocacy Manor estate, bounded by Monocacy Creek, and nestled at the foot-hills of the Pocono Mountains on the outskirts of Bethlehem, PA. The natural beauty of the grounds and the gentle flow of the creek provides an atmosphere ideal for learning.

The main teaching components of the Institute are the Summer Semester programs (Session A, Session B, Session L), and the Dalcroze National Holidays workshops. All courses provide an in-depth experience of the entire Jaques-Dalcroze approach: Eurhythmics, Solfège, Improvisation, Plastique Animée, Pedagogy, and Philosophy. Together, these courses prepare the candidates for the three-tiered Professional Certification and the Licence d'Enseignement.

The Institute for Jaques-Dalcroze Education has positively changed and affected me more than any other educational experience to date. The weekend intensive renewed m passion and energy for performance and teaching. Jack Stevenson taught me that I can do things that I never thought possible. The School Sister of St. Francis reminded me that I am part of something much, much bigger than myself. I can think of no great place to develop as a musician, teacher, and human being.

I cannot adequately express what a wonderful experience I had during my time at the Institute for Jaques-Dalcroze Education! The training was the mot intense and beneficial musical education I have had in my career. Due to the comprehensive nature of the physical and mental demands of the program, it was imperative to maintain a quiet focus throughout the week. The atmosphere of the renewal center proved to be ideal for this. The tranquil surroundings and exceptional hospitality not only refreshed each of us as students, but also allowed us to maintain a hight level of concentration alongside a joyful class camaraderie. Everyone at the renewal center went out of their way to make our stay both comfortable and enjoyable. I can honestly say I was extremely sad to leave at the end of my training and look forward to any opportunity to return.

The 2014 Instituet for Jaques-Dalcroze Education was the most intensive, exciting and rewarding Dalcroze experience I’ve ever had. The director approached each student where they were and worked with him/her so that y the end of the two weeks each person had attained more than he or she thought possible. The program provides very clear expectations, while demanding the highest standards of musicianship, skill, and effort. Staying at the Renewal Center offered us the serenity needed to focus on our studies. The sisters were so gracious and kind. The retreat center provided clean, comfortable accommodations in a beautiful park-like setting. All the meals were delicious, especially the baked apple French toast. The practice facilities were a two-minute walk through the beautiful grounds from our room and meals.
